Blue Pond in Hokkaido, Japan

located in left bank of river bieigawa. southeast of the town of Biei, on the

Japanese island of Hokkaido,

The Blue Pond, in Hokkaido, Japan, is one of the most

beautiful bodies of water in the world. Blue pond is named after is deep blue

color which it owes to natural minerals dissolved in the water.

It’s an artificial Pond created when a dam was

erected to protect the region from mudflows due to its proximity to a volcano on

Mt. Tokachi. When Volcano erupted

in december 1988, local officials decided to construct the dam upstream, water

blocked by dam now accumulates in a

depression in the forest creating the Blue Pond. It receives so much attention

due to its

pristine blue color hue and changes to lovely green in certain light.

Color of the pond hardly remains constant it changes along with the season and

viewing angle.

Water is itself colorless, but there is no scientific explanation of changes

colors, some theories

Say thatits due to high concentration of aluminum hydroxide in the water.

Blue Pond Became a global attraction since it was included in Apple’s OS X

Mountain Lion.
