Seven Coloured Earths, Mauritius :
The “Seven-Coloured earth” located in Chamarel plain of Rivière Noire District in
south-western Mauritius.
Seven coloured earth is a Natural phenomenon and Geological curiosity comprising

Seven distinct colours which are red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and
yellow. Different layers give
It a surrealistic look.
The colors evolved through conversion of basaltic lava to clay minerals. The two
main elements of the resulting soil, iron and aluminium are responsible for red
and blue colours. the earth form beautiful patterns of colour in the exposed
hillsides
This is a small (7500 m2) area of strikingly bare landscape located within a
large, dense forest. It has become a Major tourist attraction since the 1960s.
Sunrise is the best time to see the Coloured Earths. Area is protected by wooden
fence and visitors are not
Allowed to climb on them, though they can look the scenery from observation
place.
On the premises there are some giant tortoises and Children’s playground. Shops
in the area
Sell small test-tubes filled up with the coloured earths.
